Las Palmas, a site that welcomes everyone with life and kindness

Las Palmas, a site that welcomes everyone with life and kindness

Veraguas is a province bathed by two oceans, with places rich in natural diversity and lush landscapes. It is a place very well known by its people, handicrafts and the excellent Education Level that it provides to locals and non-locals. It is also known by the spectacular tourist places it offers the world. Veraguas is known to have the best beaches for surfing, fishing, snorkeling, skydiving and much more.   Today I had the pleasure to visit the Las Palmas, a small town in Veraguas. The town was named Las Palmas for the great number of palm trees growing in that area.  You can travel to that appealing place by taking a bus (routes Santiago-las Palmas or Santiago-Sona) at the Veraguas Transport Terminal. It takes only 35 minutes from Santiago City to Las Palmas Town.  The bus leaves you in Sona District Terminal from where you take another bus to go to Las Palmas.  The bus fare is of 2 dollars from Santiago to Sona and from there to Las Palmas is of only 1.50 (US Currency is used). The buses are very comfortable and while travelling, you can enjoy and relax by watching the nice, pleasant and attractive panorama which is impossible not to be noticed.
Whenever I have to choose a place to visit, I always think of the natural richness, the people, the tourist attractiveness and the accessibility to travel without problems to places where food is easily available at a good price. I found all these things in my trip to Las Palmas.
In Las Palmas town, there is a small transport terminal opposite to the Catholic Church, which is situated beside the park. There inside the terminal is a small, cozy restaurant which has a very good view, it offers excellent customer services and serves delicious meals on good rates to all its customers.

The vegetation of the place is abundant, sumptuous and good to the eyes. Especially in the morning
You can see   steep hills with clouds like cotton balls hovering on the sky and with a not so dense fog that makes the place more attractive and to some extent magical.  The forest is tropical-humid with a great kind of trees that form that spectacular scenario of liveliness which makes anyone belong to it. The temperature is cool, it is ideal for those who can’t stand the heat and prefer to be in touch with nature in a comfortable ambience at a perfect temperature.
Its culture is diverse and kind, as you can see people from different parts of the country, from other countries and of many aboriginal backgrounds who still wear their distinctive cloths that are confectioned by them.

Town’s layout

The town’s layout is very simple, fresh, somewhat antique, but with some touches of sophistication. There you can see buildings that tell their history and express the cultural idiosyncrasies of its people.   The streets are in good conditions. The network system is very strong so the internet and cellular connections are easy to get. It also has public phone booths everywhere.  The town also has a police sub-station, a small pharmacy, a mail office, etc.  The town still conserves the Spanish design in most of its buildings and houses as shown in the picture above.

You can’t pass Las Palmas without dropping by El Salto de Las Palmas (The Las Palmas Waterfall). This wonderful tourist site is located about 5 minutes away from the main park of the town. You can go there on foot to behold & capture the natural richness and enjoy the cool refreshing breeze or simply hire a taxi if you don’t have a car.  The taxi fare to there is only a dollar. The taxi service is very good and the drivers give you tours around the town if you ask them.  The Salto is over 40 meters high. The river is not very deep but you can have a dive in it if you want. You can drink from the water as it is very pure. As you can see in the picture, the stones behind the squirt appear as if they have carefully been put in place by an expert, whereas everything in the area remains untouched, natural, wild and amazing.
I took advantage of the great panorama, as I took as many pictures and asked as many questions I could to learn a bit more of the place. Actually the national environmental authority and locals are mutually protecting the area. They have a program to plant trees, clean the river areas and teach people of the importance of taking care of places like this. They also teach students on the tourist significance of the place and how they can work together to keep it as it is.   Before, the site did not have paved streets; as a result it was really inaccessible and barely known. Today due to the joint efforts of the town’s inhabitants the tourist place has streets in good conditions.
To me, the most interesting part of this trip was how the people of Las Palmas Town have managed to keep the city maintained without poverty becoming a hurdle.

Panama City where the modern and the Antique meet up
The city’s design resembles those of Manhattan and Miami but with the contrast that Panama is way much cheaper than the two.  Panama offers a high quality of life, education and infrastructure at a very low price. Panama is strategically located; therefore it is dubbed the hub of the Americas.  The Panama Canal has become a spearhead as a bastion to place Panama in the economical spot that the country is enjoying so far. the coastal strip has even enhanced the tourist appeal of the city.

if you want to know more about the city and on places that you would like to stay, please go to my previous blog where I put up some useful references on Restaurants, hotels, inns and so many other interesting site that you never knew existed. My previous blog is dated November 1, 2012.
